MONEY AND CURRENCY EXCHANGE

The currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound.

As of Sept 2023, $1.00 USD = E£30.94. We recommend waiting until you are in Egypt to exchange money. It is best to bring newer $100 bills to exchange with as often they won’t accept worn or older bills. We recommend exchanging some cash immediately upon arrival as sometimes the atms in the hotels are finicky.

Hotels and some larger shops will take VISA (not as many take MasterCard). ATMs are not always convenient, although they can be found. A money belt or other secure means of carrying money and documents is advisable. Once currency is exchanged, it helps to carry many one and five pound notes for gifting and tipping.

In regards to tipping, our local team will tip throughout the journey to all the temple guards, boat crew, transport facilitators, local community. So there will be one total amount each of us will give to the team to cover all tips throughout.
